Veloz overview
The Veloz is the dressier sibling of the Avanza. It started out as an Avanza trim level and is now a model of its own, built on the same front-wheel-drive DNGA-B platform. You can choose from the 1.5 E CVT at ₱1,104,000, 1.5 G CVT at ₱1,222,000 and 1.5 V CVT at ₱1,262,000. Platinum White Pearl Mica adds ₱15,000 on the G and V. It is aimed at families who want a seven-seater that looks more like a crossover than a van.
Every Veloz uses the 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 105 hp and 138 Nm, paired with a CVT. It is longer than the Avanza at 4,475 mm and rides higher, with 205 mm of ground clearance. Seven seats are standard, and the fuel tank holds 43 liters. Like the Avanza, it is a light vehicle with a modest engine, so expressway passing and steep climbs with a full cabin call for patience.
The E CVT makes the Veloz an easy stretch for Avanza shoppers, since it costs only ₱33,000 more than the Avanza 1.5 G. The V is ₱40,000 above the G. At this money you are also close to the Innova 2.8 J diesel at ₱1,267,000, which is bigger, rear-wheel drive and better at hauling weight, but comes as a manual-only base model. For city families the Veloz is the easier car to live with. Families who load up for long provincial runs may prefer the Innova. Either way, test how easily the second row folds to reach the third row, because with kids you will do it every day.
Who it is for: Families who want a seven-seater with a more upscale look than the Avanza and extra ground clearance for rough roads.
