Avanza overview
The Avanza is Toyota's budget seven-seater, the car many families buy once a sedan stops being big enough. The third-generation model (W100) moved to front-wheel drive and shares the DNGA-B platform with the Veloz and the Ativ. Prices go from ₱844,000 for the 1.3 J MT to ₱959,000 for the 1.3 E MT, ₱1,016,000 for the 1.3 E CVT and ₱1,071,000 for the 1.5 G CVT.
The 1.3-liter makes 97 hp and 122 Nm and the 1.5 makes 105 hp and 138 Nm. Neither is quick with seven people aboard, so overtakes on two-lane provincial roads need planning. The Avanza is 4,395 mm long on a 2,750 mm wheelbase, close to the length of a Vios but with a third row. Ground clearance is listed at 180 mm for the 1.3 and 190 mm for the 1.5 G, and every version has a 43-liter tank. The 1.3 E comes with either a manual or a CVT, so you can choose based on how much traffic you sit in every day.
The J MT is mainly for fleet and business buyers. For a family, the 1.3 E CVT is the sensible version, and the 1.5 G adds ₱55,000 for the bigger engine and top trim. That 1.5 G is also the one to get if you drive to the provinces often. If you can stretch to ₱1,104,000, look at the Veloz as well: it uses the same 1.5 engine in a dressier body with 205 mm of ground clearance. Third rows in this class suit kids better than adults, so bring the whole family to the showroom and try every seat before you sign.
Who it is for: Growing families and small businesses that need seven seats for under ₱1.1 million.

Toyota Avanza FAQ
How many seats does the Toyota Avanza have?
Seven, in three rows, on every version.
Avanza or Veloz: what is the difference?
Both share the same platform. The Avanza is the cheaper, plainer model with 1.3 or 1.5 engines from ₱844,000 to ₱1,071,000. The Veloz comes only with the 1.5, costs ₱1,104,000 to ₱1,262,000, and has 205 mm of ground clearance against the Avanza's 180 to 190 mm.
Is the Avanza good for out-of-town trips?
It can do them, but with seven people and luggage the 1.3 has little power to spare. If you drive to the province often, the 1.5 G CVT is the better pick.
