Mazda2 Hatchback overview
The Mazda2 is now a one-variant model in the Philippines: the 1.5L Hatchback Sport at ₱1,250,000, per the Mazda price list dated September 1, 2026. The sedan is no longer on the list, and neither is a manual. What remains is a small five-door with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. ZigWheels lists 108 hp and 141 Nm, a 44-liter tank and 143 mm of ground clearance. With no trim levels to compare, the dealer conversation is at least a short one.
The price is the sticking point. At ₱1.25 million, the Mazda2 costs more than many larger subcompact sedans, and new electric hatchbacks undercut it: the BYD Seagull lists at ₱968,000 and the Geely EX2 starts at ₱938,000, with no gasoline bill at all (you pay for electricity instead). The Mazda's case rests on cabin finish and driving feel, two things a spec sheet doesn't capture, so a test drive matters here more than usual.
The car makes the most sense for a single driver or a couple in Metro Manila who want a compact gasoline hatch that is easy to park and refuel anywhere. At 4,090 mm long it fits tight condo slots and squeezes through side streets. Families who need a usable back seat and a bigger trunk should look at the Mazda3 or a subcompact sedan instead. Ask about current promos before you settle on the SRP, and check the paint surcharge: Soul Red Crystal adds ₱22,400. On a chattel mortgage with 20 percent down, you would still be borrowing about ₱1 million, so compare that monthly figure with what the same budget buys elsewhere.
Who it is for: Singles and couples in the city who want a small, well-finished gasoline hatchback and don't need much rear-seat or cargo space.
