Seagull overview
The Seagull is BYD's smallest and cheapest full EV in the Philippines, listed at ₱968,000 as a single variant. It is a 3,780 mm five-door hatchback with a 75 PS (74 hp), 135 Nm front motor and a 30 kWh Blade Battery. BYD quotes 300 km of range on the NEDC cycle and 0 to 50 km/h in 4.9 seconds, which is the figure that matters most in city traffic. There are no trims to compare, so color is the main decision.
This is a car for Metro Manila errands, school runs and short commutes. Its 4.95-meter turning radius makes U-turns and tight parking easy, and the small footprint fits almost any condo slot. Cargo space is 230 liters with the rear seats up and 930 liters with them folded, enough for a grocery run or a couple of carry-on bags. Ground clearance is only 120 mm, though, so deep floodwater during typhoon season is something to avoid, as with any low car. The 16-inch wheels with 175/55 tires keep replacement costs down.
The Seagull's main rival is now the Geely EX2, which starts ₱30,000 lower at ₱938,000 and has a bigger battery, though Geely quotes range on the stricter WLTP cycle. Against gasoline city cars, the Seagull costs more to buy but less to run if you charge at home, and as an EV it is exempt from number coding under the EVIDA law. Highway trips are possible but not its strength: 75 PS and a 300 km NEDC rating mean planning your charging stops on longer drives to the provinces.
Who it is for: City drivers who want a cheap, easy-to-park EV for daily errands and can charge at home.
