MX-5 overview

The MX-5 is the only true sports car in Mazda's Philippine lineup, and it comes in two forms. The Soft Top has a fabric roof you fold by hand and four versions from ₱2,330,000 to ₱2,480,000. The RF has a powered folding hard top and two automatic-only versions at ₱2,580,000 and ₱2,630,000. Every MX-5 uses a 2.0-liter gasoline engine driving the rear wheels, and ZigWheels lists 181 hp and 205 Nm. Machine Gray and Soul Red Crystal cost extra, as on other Mazdas.

The price steps are mostly about cabin color and roof type. On the Soft Top, tan Nappa leather with a tan top adds ₱100,000 over black, and the manual saves ₱50,000 over the automatic. The cheapest way in is the Soft Top MT with black top and black leather at ₱2,330,000. If you can drive stick, the manual also suits the car's character best, and it costs less. The RF's folding hard top adds ₱150,000 to ₱200,000 over the matching automatic Soft Top, so decide early if you want the coupe-like look and a sturdier roof.

Practicality is limited, and buyers should go in knowing that. There are two seats, a small trunk, a 45-liter tank and only 135 mm of ground clearance, so flooded streets in the rainy season are a real concern. At 3,915 mm long it is easy to park, but you sit low among buses and trucks on EDSA. For most households the MX-5 works best as a second car for weekend drives to Tagaytay, Batangas or Zambales. Insurance for a sports car can cost more, so get a quote early.

Who it is for: Driving enthusiasts who want a light, rear-drive two-seater and already have a practical car at home.

Mazda MX-5 FAQ

How much is the Mazda MX-5 in the Philippines?

The Soft Top costs ₱2,330,000 to ₱2,480,000 and the RF costs ₱2,580,000 to ₱2,630,000, per Mazda Philippines' September 2026 price list. Premium paints add up to ₱22,400.

What is the difference between the MX-5 Soft Top and RF?

The Soft Top has a manually folded fabric roof and comes with a manual or an automatic. The RF has a powered folding hard top and is automatic only in the Philippines. An RF costs ₱150,000 to ₱200,000 more than the matching automatic Soft Top.

Can the MX-5 be a daily car in Metro Manila?

It can, if two seats and a small trunk are enough for you. The bigger worries are the 135 mm ground clearance on flooded or rough roads and the low seating position in heavy traffic.
