Tucson overview

The Tucson gives you a choice few compact SUVs still offer: gasoline, diesel or hybrid. HMPH's October 2026 price list has the 2.0 GLS AT (Gas) at ₱1,680,000, the 2.0 GLS+ AT (Diesel) at ₱1,980,000 and the 1.6T HEV (Hybrid) at ₱2,290,000. HMPH's performance pages list 156 PS and 192 Nm for the 2.0 gasoline, 185 PS and 416 Nm for the 2.0 diesel, and 235 PS and 367 Nm for the turbo hybrid with its six-speed automatic.

Each one suits a different driver. The gasoline Tucson is the cheapest way into a well-sized SUV and is fine for mostly urban use. The diesel has more than twice the torque, so it's the one for frequent trips to the province with a full load, and diesel is usually cheaper per liter than gasoline here. The hybrid is the strongest and the most efficient in traffic. It also gets the number coding exemption that the DOE says applies to full hybrids under the EVIDA law. Zigwheels lists 181 mm of ground clearance and a 4,630 mm body, which is roomy without being hard to park.

Rivals depend on the version. The hybrid is ₱68,000 cheaper than a Honda CR-V 1.5 V Turbo and lines up against the Kia Sportage Turbo Hybrid, which has the same 235 PS rating. The gasoline Tucson competes with the Mazda CX-5 and Ford Territory, and the diesel has few direct rivals left in this size. Whichever you pick, ask the dealer for a full trim spec sheet, since HMPH's price list doesn't show safety features. If your commute runs through EDSA or C5 every day, the hybrid's coding exemption may be worth the extra ₱610,000 over the gasoline car on its own.

Who it is for: Families who want a midsize-feeling compact SUV and like having a choice of gasoline, diesel or hybrid power.

Pros and cons

What we like on paper

  • Gasoline, diesel and hybrid versions to choose from
  • Diesel's 416 Nm suits long trips with a full load
  • Hybrid matches the Sportage hybrid's 235 PS and is coding-exempt

What to consider

  • Only one trim per engine, so little room to tailor equipment
  • Gasoline 2.0 is modest for a vehicle this size
