Staria overview
The Staria replaced the Grand Starex as Hyundai's big van, and in 2026 it comes in more versions than any other Hyundai. HMPH's October price list has five diesel trims, from the 2.2 CRDi 6MT Cargo at ₱1,499,000 and the Commuter at ₱1,850,000 up to the Premium+ 8AT AWD at ₱2,830,000 (9 seats) or ₱3,030,000 (7 seats). The Staria Hybrid adds five more, from the 1.6T HEV GL 9-seater at ₱1,999,000 to the Premium Plus 7-seater at ₱3,199,000.
The diesel is a 2.2-liter CRDi with 177 PS (about 175 hp) and 430 Nm, according to HMPH, paired with a six-speed manual on the work versions and an eight-speed automatic on the passenger trims. The hybrid uses a 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine and electric motor with a six-speed automatic. HMPH quotes 245 PS for the system and 265 Nm. The body is 5,253 mm long with 186 mm of ground clearance, per Zigwheels.
So which one? Businesses moving goods or staff will look at the Cargo and Commuter, where the diesel's torque and the manual's simplicity make sense. Families and shuttle operators choosing between the diesel GLS+ and the Hybrid GL or GLS should weigh fuel type and traffic. The hybrid suits stop-and-go Metro Manila driving, and as a full hybrid it can also run on your coding day. The diesel is the better long-distance and heavy-load choice and is the only one with AWD. The top 7-seat versions are aimed at the same buyers as the Kia Carnival. Parking a 5.25-meter van in a mall basement takes practice, so check that it fits your garage.
Who it is for: Large families, shuttle and tour operators, and businesses that need a big van, with a hybrid option for heavy city traffic.
