Creta overview

The Creta is Hyundai's mainstream subcompact crossover, sitting between the Venue and the Tucson. HMPH lists four trims as of October 2026: 1.5 GL IVT at ₱1,134,000, 1.5 GLS IVT at ₱1,254,000, 1.5 Premium IVT at ₱1,333,000 and 1.5T N Line 7DCT at ₱1,379,000. The first three use a naturally aspirated 1.5 with about 113 hp and 144 Nm, according to Carmudi, paired with Hyundai's IVT, a CVT-type automatic. That combination is tuned for smooth, frugal city driving rather than speed.

The N Line is the interesting one. HMPH says its 1.5 T-GDi turbo makes 160 PS (about 158 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 253 Nm from 1,500 to 3,500 rpm, and it uses a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with selectable drive modes. That's a lot more pull than the Honda HR-V's 1.5 non-hybrid, and the N Line costs only ₱46,000 more than the Creta Premium. Carmudi lists 200 mm of ground clearance and a 40-liter tank for the base GL, which helps when the rains turn streets into shallow rivers.

For most families the GLS is the sensible middle, while buyers who drive a lot on SLEX, STAR Tollway or the Cavitex will enjoy the N Line's torque on the expressway. One caution about dual-clutch gearboxes: in crawling EDSA traffic they can feel less smooth than a conventional automatic or IVT, so take a test drive in real traffic before deciding. Rivals include the Toyota Yaris Cross, Honda HR-V, Mitsubishi Xforce and Geely Coolray. The Creta's case is a strong price-to-equipment ratio and a turbo option that few rivals offer at this price.

Who it is for: Small families who want a roomy subcompact crossover with good ground clearance, or enthusiasts who want a turbo at a modest price.
