Seal 5 DM-i overview

The Seal 5 DM-i is BYD's cheapest car in the Philippines and one of the most affordable plug-in hybrids on sale. The updated New Seal 5 DM-i comes as the Essential at ₱948,000 and the Dynamic at ₱1,048,000. BYD's price list also still shows the previous Seal 5 DM-i, at ₱958,000 for the Dynamic and ₱1,198,000 for the Premium, so make sure you know which version a dealer is quoting.

The new car uses BYD's Super DM-i system with a 163 PS (161 hp), 210 Nm front motor and a 7.42 kWh Blade Battery. BYD quotes 55 km of electric range and a combined range of 1,600 km, plus 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds. The sedan is 4,780 mm long, which is long for this price, and both new variants ride on 16-inch wheels with 225/60 tires. BYD lists up to 1,295 liters of cargo space with the rear seats folded, and a 5.5-meter turning radius.

For a buyer looking at a gasoline sedan around ₱950,000, such as the Geely Emgrand, the Seal 5 DM-i changes the math. It costs about the same, runs on electricity for short daily trips after a home charge, and uses gasoline for everything else, so long provincial drives need no planning. As a plug-in hybrid it should also qualify for the EVIDA number coding exemption. The weak points are a low 120 mm ground clearance (listed for the Essential) and a small battery, so electric-only driving is limited to short commutes. BYD's battery warranty runs 8 years or 160,000 km, the same as on its other models.

Who it is for: Sedan buyers with a budget of about ₱1 million who want lower fuel costs without depending on public chargers.

BYD Seal 5 DM-i FAQ

How much is the BYD Seal 5 DM-i in the Philippines?

The New Seal 5 DM-i costs ₱948,000 (Essential) and ₱1,048,000 (Dynamic). The previous version is still listed at ₱958,000 (Dynamic) and ₱1,198,000 (Premium). All are SRPs from the BYD Cars Philippines price list, valid as of July 28, 2026.

What is the difference between the Seal 5 DM-i and the New Seal 5 DM-i?

The New Seal 5 DM-i is the updated version, with a 7.42 kWh battery, a 163 PS motor and 55 km of electric range. BYD still lists the previous model alongside it. Ask the dealer for the spec sheet of the exact unit you are being offered.

Does the Seal 5 DM-i need to be plugged in?

No, but it helps. The engine charges the battery as you drive, so you can treat it like a regular hybrid. Plugging in at home overnight lets you cover up to 55 km on electricity, and that is where the biggest fuel savings come from.
