Almera overview
The Almera is Nissan's subcompact sedan and its cheapest car in the Philippines. The October 2026 price guide lists two versions, both with a CVT and NissanConnect Services (NCS): the 1.0 VE Turbo at ₱1,099,000 and the 1.0 VL Turbo at ₱1,199,000. The manual versions are no longer on the list, so this is now an automatic-only car. Both trims share the same engine and gearbox, so the ₱100,000 gap is all about equipment.
Both use a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine. Zigwheels lists 99 hp and 152 Nm for the CVT versions. The car is 4,495 mm long with a 35-liter tank. NissanConnect Services is the selling point Nissan pushes: it lets you control some functions from a phone app, receive maintenance alerts and get emergency assistance, and Nissan says it was a first in the subcompact sedan class. The Almera page also lists a 5-year or 150,000 km warranty.
The weak spot for Philippine conditions is ground clearance. Zigwheels gives 135 mm, which is low, so flooded streets during the rainy season and steep driveways call for care. The Almera also costs more than it used to: the entry VE now sits at ₱1,099,000, which overlaps with the Mitsubishi Xpander GLX manual and some subcompact crossovers. If you mainly drive in the city and like the idea of a connected car, the Almera is worth a test drive. If you need space for seven or regularly drive on flood-prone roads, look elsewhere. Compare it with the Toyota Vios, Honda City and Mitsubishi Mirage G4, and check the total cost after insurance and chattel mortgage fees.
Who it is for: City drivers who want a modern, connected automatic sedan with a long warranty and mostly drive on paved roads.
