eMAX 9 DM-i overview
The eMAX 9 DM-i is BYD's large plug-in hybrid MPV, a seven-seater aimed at families and executives who would otherwise look at premium vans. Two variants are listed: the Advanced at ₱2,778,000 and the Premium at ₱3,098,000. Both use a 1.5-liter turbo engine that works mainly as a generator, plus a 271 PS (267 hp), 315 Nm front motor, and both reach 100 km/h in about 8.5 seconds.
The battery is where the variants differ. The Advanced has a 20.4 kWh pack with 95 km of NEDC electric range and 945 km combined. The Premium has 36.6 kWh, 170 km of NEDC electric range and 1,000 km combined. That bigger battery makes the Premium 180 kg heavier, at 2,650 kg. Both are 5,145 mm long and 1,970 mm wide with 157 mm of ground clearance, and cargo space runs from 470 to 2,036 liters. The turning radius is 5.7 meters, and both versions use 18-inch wheels with 235/60 tires. Front suspension is MacPherson strut, with a four-link independent rear.
Size is the first thing to check. At over 5.1 meters long and almost 2 meters wide, it needs a big parking slot and some care in narrow streets. In return, the Premium's 170 km NEDC figure means many owners could do their weekday driving on electricity if they charge at home, which matters for a vehicle this heavy. Against the Mazda CX-90 at ₱3,830,000, it is cheaper and has real electric range, while the Mazda has AWD and a conventional SUV body. Like BYD's other DM-i models, it should also be exempt from number coding.
Who it is for: Large families and executives who want a roomy seven-seat MPV with real electric range and have space to park it.

BYD eMAX 9 DM-i FAQ

eMAX 9 DM-i Advanced or Premium?
