Yaris Cross overview

The Yaris Cross sold here is the Asian-market model, a different car from the European Yaris Cross of the same name. It fills the space between the Raize and the Corolla Cross with four main versions: the gasoline 1.5 G CVT (₱1,210,000) and 1.5 V CVT (₱1,308,000), and the hybrid 1.5 S HEV (₱1,610,000) and 1.5 SE HEV (₱1,690,000). The V costs ₱10,000 more in Scarlet or Attitude Black Mica. It is the Toyota to look at if the Raize feels too small and the Corolla Cross too expensive.

The gasoline engine is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 105 hp and 138 Nm. The hybrid has its own 1.5-liter engine working with an electric motor; AutoDeal lists it at 109 hp and 121 Nm. All versions are front-wheel drive with a CVT. The figure that stands out is ground clearance: 212 mm, more than the Raize, the Corolla Cross or even the Fortuner. If your street floods every rainy season, that matters more than horsepower. The gas car has a 42-liter tank, the hybrid a 36-liter one.

The jump from gas to hybrid is steep. The S HEV costs ₱302,000 more than the V CVT, and that buys a lot of gasoline. The hybrid makes sense if you sit in stop-and-go traffic every day and the number-coding exemption for green-plated hybrids would change your week. If you drive mostly on expressways or in the province, the 1.5 G or V is the better value. Oddly, the hybrid S also costs ₱96,000 more than the bigger Corolla Cross G HEV, so check both before choosing.

Who it is for: Families moving up from a sedan or a Raize who want high ground clearance and the option of a hybrid.

Toyota Yaris Cross FAQ

Is the Yaris Cross hybrid worth the extra cost?

It depends on your commute. The 1.5 S HEV costs ₱1,610,000, which is ₱302,000 more than the gas 1.5 V. Heavy daily traffic and the number-coding exemption for hybrids make the case; mostly open-road driving does not.

Is the Philippine Yaris Cross the same as the European one?

No. The model sold here is the Asian-market Yaris Cross, a different vehicle from the European car that shares the name.

How much ground clearance does the Yaris Cross have?

212 mm on both the gas and hybrid versions, according to the spec sheet.
