HR-V overview

Honda Cars Philippines offers the HR-V in three trims. The S CVT costs ₱1,460,000, the V CVT ₱1,529,000 and the RS e:HEV ₱1,799,000. The S and V use the 1.5-liter i-VTEC found in the City, with 121 PS (about 119 hp) and 145 Nm. The RS swaps it for Honda's 1.5 e:HEV system, where the engine mostly acts as a generator and an electric motor with 131 PS and 253 Nm turns the wheels.

Honda SENSING comes on all three, along with stability assist, hill start assist and hill descent control. Beyond that, the trims split in ways worth checking. The S has a basic reverse camera and front airbags only. The V and RS add side and curtain airbags, LaneWatch, a multi-view rear camera and a wireless charger. Every HR-V has a 404-liter cargo area and 196 mm of ground clearance, which gives you more margin than a sedan when a downpour floods the streets near your village.

The pitch is a crossover that feels like a car to drive, with a raised seat that makes Metro Manila traffic less tiring. Rivals are plenty: the Toyota Yaris Cross and Corolla Cross, Hyundai Creta and Kona Hybrid, and Nissan Kicks all sit near this price. The V is the sweet spot, since the extra ₱69,000 over the S buys four more airbags and better cameras. The RS e:HEV makes sense if you spend hours a day in traffic, where a hybrid saves the most fuel. The DOE has also said full hybrids are exempt from number coding. Keep in mind the 1.5 non-hybrid has the same output as the City sedan, so it won't feel quick with four adults on board.

Who it is for: City drivers who want a higher seating position and better flood clearance than a sedan, with driver aids standard.
