Fortuner overview

The Fortuner is the Hilux-based midsize SUV that fills Philippine subdivisions and provincial highways. The second-generation model (AN160) has been updated several times, and Toyota lists seven core versions for 2026: 2.4 G 4x2 MT (₱1,775,000), 2.4 G 4x2 AT (₱1,867,000), 2.4 V 4x2 AT (₱2,000,000), 2.8 Q 4x2 AT (₱2,200,000), 2.8 LTD 4x2 AT (₱2,396,000), 2.8 LTD 4x4 AT (₱2,559,000) and 2.8 GR-S 4x4 AT (₱2,656,000).

The 2.4-liter diesel makes 148 hp and 400 Nm. The 2.8 is rated at 201 hp and 500 Nm in the Q and LTD, and 221 hp and 550 Nm in the GR-S. Gearboxes are six-speed manual or automatic, and only the LTD 4x4 and GR-S have four-wheel drive. Those are the versions to consider if you regularly drive on muddy farm roads or beach sand. The Fortuner is 4,795 mm long, has 193 mm of ground clearance and seats seven. Its 80-liter tank means fewer fuel stops on a long run to Bicol or Ilocos.

For most families, the 2.4 V 4x2 AT at ₱2,000,000 is enough truck; the 2.4 has plenty of torque for loaded highway driving. Pay for the 2.8 if you tow, climb mountain roads often or want the extra muscle. The 4x4 versions make sense only if you really leave the pavement, since they cost ₱163,000 more than the equivalent LTD 4x2. Before signing, get quotes on the Montero Sport, Everest, mu-X and Terra too. Promos in this class change from month to month, so compare the final cash price, not the SRP.

Who it is for: Families and business owners who want a seven-seat diesel SUV for long provincial trips, floods and the occasional rough road.
