Sorento overview
The Sorento is Kia's seven-seat midsize SUV, and like the Sportage it's sold here only as a Turbo Hybrid. Kia Philippines lists three trims in November 2026: 1.6 EX 4x2 at ₱2,188,000, 1.6 EX+ 4x2 at ₱2,608,000 and 1.6 SX AWD at ₱2,908,000. According to Kia's brochure, the 1.6 turbo engine makes 180 PS and 265 Nm, the electric motor 60 PS and 264 Nm, and together they deliver 235 PS (about 232 hp) and 367 Nm through a six-speed automatic.
The brochure lists a 4,815 mm body, a 2,815 mm wheelbase, 174 mm of ground clearance and a 67-liter tank. Seating is in three rows, with a sliding, reclining 60:40 second row and a 50:50 third row that folds flat. Front passengers get dual-zone automatic climate control and the rear has its own air control, which matters in Philippine heat with a full cabin. The SX is the only trim with all-wheel drive.
The Sorento's natural rivals are the Hyundai Santa Fe and, for many families, the diesel PPVs such as the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero Sport and Ford Everest. Against the PPVs it trades off-road toughness and towing for a car-like ride, lower fuel use in traffic and freedom from number coding, which the DOE extends to full hybrids under the EVIDA law. The EX at ₱2,188,000 is the value pick and costs less than the Santa Fe hybrid by more than ₱1.1 million, though that Hyundai is a top-trim Calligraphy. The EX+ jump is large at ₱420,000, so compare equipment lists before paying it. Choose the SX if you drive often to the mountains in the rainy season and want AWD.
Who it is for: Families who need seven seats and want hybrid efficiency and coding exemption rather than a diesel PPV.
