Tang DM-i overview

The Tang DM-i is the plug-in hybrid version of BYD's seven-seat SUV, and at ₱2,148,000 it costs ₱1.27 million less than the all-electric Tang. It uses a 1.5-liter turbo engine that works mainly as a generator, a 271 PS (267 hp), 315 Nm front motor and a 21.5 kWh Blade Battery. BYD quotes 110 km of electric range, 1,160 km combined and 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. That price also puts it below the Mazda CX-8 Signature at ₱2,390,000.

The body is 4,870 mm long with 182 mm of ground clearance, more than the Tang EV's 150 mm, and it seats seven. Cargo space is 235 liters behind the third row, 940 liters with it folded and 1,655 liters with both rear rows down. It rides on 20-inch wheels with 255/50 tires and has a multi-link rear suspension. Unlike the Tang EV, it is front-wheel drive only. Curb weight is 2,130 kg and the turning radius 5.9 meters. Brakes are ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear.

For most Philippine buyers, this is the more practical Tang. The 110 km of electric range covers a lot of daily driving after an overnight charge, and the gasoline engine handles provincial trips without charging stops. Its natural rivals are diesel seven-seaters such as the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest, and car-based SUVs like the Mazda CX-8 at ₱2,390,000 to ₱2,530,000. As a plug-in hybrid it should also qualify for the number coding exemption, which the diesel rivals don't get. BYD's 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranty applies here too.

Who it is for: Families who want a seven-seat SUV that drives on electricity day to day and on gasoline for long trips.

BYD Tang DM-i FAQ

How much is the BYD Tang DM-i in the Philippines?

₱2,148,000 for the single variant, per the BYD Cars Philippines price list (SRP valid as of July 28, 2026).

Tang DM-i or Mazda CX-8?

Both seat seven. The CX-8 costs ₱2,390,000 to ₱2,530,000 with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and offers AWD in the 6-seater. The Tang DM-i costs less, can drive about 110 km on electricity and has more ground clearance, but it is front-wheel drive only.

How far can the Tang DM-i go on electricity?

BYD quotes 110 km from the 21.5 kWh battery and 1,160 km of combined range. Real electric range will be lower with a full load and the aircon running, but it still covers most daily driving.
