S-Presso overview

The S-Presso is Suzuki's cheapest passenger car in the Philippines and, with the Celerio and Swift gone, its only small hatchback. There are just two versions, the GL MT at ₱634,000 and the GL AGS at ₱674,000. In Visayas and Mindanao the SRPs are ₱684,000 and ₱724,000. Its tall, upright body gives you a higher seating position than most cars this size, which makes getting in and out easy for older family members.

The engine is a 998 cc three-cylinder with 66 hp and 89 Nm, driving the front wheels through a five-speed manual or a five-speed AGS. AGS stands for Auto Gear Shift, an automated manual: there is no clutch pedal, but the gearbox still shifts like a manual with a short pause between gears, and owners often say it takes some getting used to in stop-and-go traffic. The S-Presso is only 3,565 mm long, sits 180 mm off the ground and has a 27-liter tank.

Its closest rival is the Toyota Wigo. The Wigo J MT is ₱19,000 cheaper than the S-Presso GL MT, but the S-Presso AGS undercuts the cheapest Wigo automatic by ₱16,000. That makes the AGS one of the lowest-priced ways to drive a new two-pedal car in the country. As a first car, a second car for errands or a starter vehicle for a small business, it does the job at a low running cost. It is less at home on long expressway runs, where the small engine has little in reserve with a full load, and the small tank means more frequent stops.

Who it is for: First-time buyers and households that need a cheap, easy-to-park second car for short trips.
