Seal overview

The Seal is BYD's electric sports sedan, and the Philippine range has two versions with very different characters. The Advanced uses one rear motor with 203 PS (200 hp) and 310 Nm, a 61.4 kWh battery and 510 km of NEDC range for ₱2,098,000. The Performance adds a front motor for all-wheel drive, 529 PS (522 hp) and 672 Nm combined, an 82.6 kWh battery and 580 km of NEDC range for ₱2,648,000.

The Performance does 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, while the Advanced takes 7.5 seconds, which is still brisk for a family sedan. Both are 4,800 mm long, with double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear. The Performance gets ventilated and drilled front discs and 19-inch wheels, while the Advanced uses 18-inch wheels. Ground clearance is just 120 mm, and the trunk holds 450 liters. Curb weight is 1,922 kg for the Advanced and 2,185 kg for the Performance, and the turning radius is 5.7 meters.

The Seal makes the most sense as a long-distance EV for people who enjoy driving. The low 120 mm ground clearance is a real concern in flood-prone areas, so check your daily route during the rainy season before you commit. For more practicality at a similar price, BYD's Sealion 7 SUV costs ₱2,588,000 with the same 82.6 kWh battery and AWD. Against gasoline sedans like the Toyota Camry, the Seal should cost far less to run if you charge at home, and as an EV it is exempt from number coding. BYD's 8-year or 160,000 km battery and motor warranty applies to both versions.

Who it is for: Driving enthusiasts and executives who want a fast, long-range electric sedan and rarely face flooded roads.
