Who cross-shops these three

If you've settled on a battery EV and need room for a family, the BYD Atto 3, Geely EX5 and Kia EV5 tend to end up on the same shortlist. Each is a five-seat crossover with a single motor driving the front wheels. As EVs, they're all exempt from number coding under the EVIDA law, and none of them makes much sense unless you can charge at home.

The Atto 3 is the cheapest way in. The EX5 comes in one version, priced between the two Atto 3 variants. The EV5 costs the most, but it has the biggest battery of the group and comes with a home charger. We haven't driven these cars, so this is a comparison on paper, using the prices and specs on our model pages.

Prices and variants

BYD Cars Philippines lists the Atto 3 Dynamic at ₱1,638,000 and the Atto 3 Premium at ₱1,848,000, on a price list valid from July 2026. The Geely EX5 is sold only as the EX5 Max at ₱1,799,000. That figure comes from ZigWheels Philippines in November 2026, because Geely's local site doesn't publish prices. Kia Philippines prices the EV5 GL at ₱2,318,000 and the EV5 GLS at ₱2,718,000.

In both two-variant lineups, the upgrade mostly buys battery. The Atto 3 Premium costs ₱210,000 more than the Dynamic and gets a 60.5 kWh pack instead of 49.9 kWh, plus bigger wheels. The EV5 GLS is ₱400,000 above the GL, and most of that pays for an 88.1 kWh battery in place of the GL's 64.2 kWh. One naming quirk: Geely's Philippine website now calls the car the Geely E5, so you may hear either name at the dealer.

Motors, batteries and range

Power is close enough that it shouldn't decide anything. The Atto 3's motor makes 204 PS (201 hp) and 310 Nm. The EX5's is rated at 160 kW, or 215 hp, with 320 Nm. The EV5 has 217 PS (about 214 hp) and 310 Nm. Quoted 0 to 100 km/h times are 7.3 seconds for the Atto 3 and 6.9 to 7.1 seconds for the EX5, depending on the source; we don't have a figure for the EV5. In EDSA traffic you won't notice the difference.

Battery size and range are another story:

  • The Atto 3 Dynamic has a 49.9 kWh battery and 410 km of quoted range. The Premium has 60.5 kWh and 480 km. BYD Philippines doesn't say which test cycle these figures come from.
  • The EX5 Max uses a 60.22 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. ZigWheels lists 425 km on the WLTP cycle, while Geely's own E5 page shows 475 km.
  • The EV5 GL gets a 64.2 kWh LFP pack rated at 400 km WLTP. The GLS has 88.1 kWh LFP and 550 km WLTP.

How to read the range claims

Since BYD doesn't name its test cycle, the Atto 3 Premium's 480 km can't be lined up directly against Kia's WLTP figures. The EX5's two published numbers are 50 km apart, so ask the dealer which one applies to the unit you'd actually buy. Real-world range also shrinks at expressway speeds, with a full cabin, and with the aircon working hard in April. Even so, any version of these three covers several days of Metro Manila driving between charges. Regular runs to Batangas or Tarlac and back are where the bigger batteries earn their price.

Charging, warranty and running costs

Kia is the only one of the three whose price list includes home charging. The EV5 comes with a 7 kW wall-mounted charger, and Kia's June 2026 price list covers standard home installation up to ₱25,000. We have no bundled charger on record for the Atto 3 or the EX5, so ask whether one is part of the current deal. If it isn't, add the charger and the electrician's work to your budget.

We don't have confirmed fast-charging rates or charging times for any of these models, so we won't quote any. Ask for the maximum AC and DC charging power in writing, and check which public fast chargers are on the routes you drive most. Condo owners should talk to the building admin about a parking slot with power before reserving a car.

On warranty, BYD covers the Atto 3's battery and motor for 8 years or 160,000 km. We don't have battery warranty terms for the EX5 and EV5, so get those in writing too. Charged at home, any of the three should cost less per kilometer than a gasoline crossover, and the coding exemption is worth a lot if you drive into Metro Manila on weekdays.

Size, space and ground clearance

The EX5 and EV5 are both 4,615 mm long. The Atto 3 is shorter at 4,455 mm, and its 5.25-meter turning radius helps in tight basement parking. The EX5 has the bigger listed trunk at 461 liters. The Atto 3 holds 440 liters, or 1,340 liters with the rear seats folded. We don't have a cargo figure for the EV5, so bring the stroller or the golf bag to the showroom and try it.

Listed ground clearance is 150 mm for the Atto 3 and 173 mm for the EX5. The EV5 GL sits at 175 mm, but the GLS drops to 161 mm. Whatever the number, keep an EV out of floodwater during typhoon season, since the battery pack sits under the floor. Within the Atto 3 range, the Dynamic's 17-inch wheels with 215/60 tires suit potholed provincial roads better than the Premium's 18-inch wheels with 235/50 tires. The Premium is also heavier, at 1,750 kg against 1,680 kg.

Features and safety

Our data doesn't break down equipment or safety features trim by trim for these three, and we'd rather leave a gap than guess. Ask each dealer for the spec sheet of the exact variant you're pricing and compare airbags and driver-assist features line by line.

Which one should you buy

For city driving on the smallest budget, get the Atto 3 Dynamic. At ₱1,638,000 it's the cheapest car here, its 410 km of quoted range is enough for most Metro Manila driving between home charges, and its taller tires are kinder on rough streets.

The Geely EX5 Max is the pick if you want the most car for under ₱1.8 million. It matches the EV5's length and has the biggest listed trunk of the three, for ₱1,799,000. Just confirm the range figure with the dealer first.

Frequent trips out of Metro Manila point to the EV5 GLS, which has the largest battery and the longest WLTP range here. It also costs ₱2,718,000 and has the lower ground clearance of the two EV5 versions.

Want home charging sorted from day one? The EV5 GL at ₱2,318,000 includes the wall charger and installation coverage.

Not sure you can charge at home at all? A plug-in hybrid may suit you better. Geely's EX5 EM-i costs ₱1,288,000 to ₱1,468,000 and can run on gasoline where chargers are scarce.

Frequently asked questions

Which has the longest range: Atto 3, EX5 or EV5?

The Kia EV5 GLS, at 550 km WLTP. The Atto 3 Premium's 480 km comes next, but BYD doesn't name the test cycle, so it can't be compared directly with the WLTP figures for the EX5 Max (425 km per ZigWheels) and the EV5 GL (400 km).

Are the Atto 3, EX5 and EV5 exempt from number coding?

Yes. All three are battery electric vehicles, which the EVIDA law exempts from number coding. The exemption covers every variant.

Do any of these come with a home charger?

The Kia EV5 does. It includes a 7 kW wall-mounted charger, and Kia's June 2026 price list covers standard installation up to ₱25,000. We have no bundled charger on record for the BYD Atto 3 or Geely EX5, so ask the dealer, because promos change from month to month.
